Sowing seeds in the DR: Baseball Clinic

Wednesday December 2, 2009 – On the last weekend before Thanksgiving a team of high school baseball players came from New York to do a baseball clinic and help finish the electrical in the new building. These boys were hardly the stature of High schoolers from where I come from (Hawaii); they were giants at roughly 6’0 tall. I was really excited to see these guys play and teach what they do best. These dedicated athletes were ready to play any sport at any time. The kids of El Catey had a reverence for these players the moment they got started and the drills were really informative. After the drills Ric Benson the trip leader gave a good message connecting baseball with the gospel of Jesus. Spencer gave his testimony after the second day practice and explained the emptiness he had before following Christ. I personally enjoyed the discipline the boys had with their relationship with Jesus. In the car conversions, dinner table talk, and group devotions were usually centered on the Bible or someone’s testimony. Alex was a guy that is in a similar crossroads in life as me with a long term missionary status as a foreseeable future. We had some good talks during the nights about our perspectives on everything imaginable. I enjoyed being around other young Christians who have passions for sharing Jesus through sport and willing to sacrifice personal achievement to glorify the King of Kings. I think that God wills what Pastor Britt Merrick from reality church Carpentaria would say “God gathers believers and scatters believers”. This means that even when I came here (scattered), a group of believes came here with a similar vision and we edified each other (gathered) and they went on their way (scattered). I see too often Christians liking the gathering part but not following the scattering. We are servants of the Kingdom and that means to invite as many people into the kingdom as we are allowed. I’m learning why it’s so important to be in fellowship with other Christians and just hanging out gaining new insight and experiences.

I had never thought about the “gathering and scattering” of believers … but it makes so much sense … now what to do with it here!
Good stuff, Noah!
We miss you guys a lot! God Bless!
