Sponsor Sickle Cell Patients

By dorsey

Sickle Cell Anemia occurs when there is a defect in the structure of the red blood cell which decreases a person’s ability to carry oxygen to their tissues. As a result, patients with sickle cell experience a crisis almost every 3 months, which may involve pain anywhere in the body and difficulty breathing. Here in the DR, patients usually get a blood transfusion which is an expensive and time consuming process for the family, and certainly not pleasant for the patient.

We provide a medicine for these patients which acts to increase the amount of fetal hemoglobin in their body and helps them to carry oxygen more efficiently, decreasing the frequency and severity of crises, decreasing the amount of blood transfusions, and increasing the quality of life for the patient and the entire family. The cost to provide medication for each patient is $23 monthly or $276 a year.

We currently have 5 sickle cell patients waiting for sponsors.

Margarita Castillo 52 years old  ( Margarita just started the medication and says that it has changed her life )

Ruth Esmerlin Garcia 12 years old

Endrina Ovalle 19 years old

Jeancarlos Castro 14 years old

Antoni Abreu 3 years old  ( we have a special suspension made for him not available in the DR )

Click here if you would like to help a Sickle Cell Child. Please let us know who you would like to sponsor.
